Power Transformer Operation, Maintenance And Troubleshooting

Jan 26, 2024

Operation and Maintenance:

1. Temperature detection: Regularly detect the temperature of the transformer, especially the temperature of the transformer oil, to ensure that it does not exceed the specified upper limit to prevent the transformer from overheating.

2. Oil quality testing: Regularly conduct quality testing on transformer oil, including acid value, moisture content, particulate matter and other indicators to ensure that the oil quality is qualified.

3. Insulation performance testing: Regularly measure the insulation resistance of the transformer to ensure good insulation performance.

4. Fastener inspection: Check the fasteners of the transformer, such as bolts, nuts, etc., to ensure reliable fastening.

5. Cooling system maintenance: Check the cooling system of the transformer, including fans, cooling water lines, etc., to ensure good cooling effect.

6. Cleaning and maintenance: Clean the transformer regularly, including the shell, insulator and other parts, to prevent the accumulation of dust and debris.

7. Maintenance records: Record the operation status, maintenance status and maintenance records of the transformer in a timely manner for future reference and analysis.

Troubleshooting:

Troubleshooting power transformers often requires experienced technicians to diagnose and repair. The following are common power transformer failures and their solutions:

1. Excessive temperature rise: When the temperature of the transformer exceeds the rated temperature, it may cause aging of the insulation material, short circuit and other faults. Solutions include adding cooling measures, adjusting load balancing, checking insulation materials, etc.

2. Short circuit: Short circuit is usually caused by insulation damage between windings, which may lead to problems such as excessive current and heating. Solutions include repairing insulation damage, replacing windings, checking insulation materials, etc.

3. Insulation breakdown: Insulation breakdown is usually caused by the insulating material being subjected to excessive voltage or excessive current. Solutions include repairing insulation damage, replacing insulation materials, adjusting voltage, etc.

4. Oil leakage: Oil leakage is usually caused by damage to oil tanks, insulating oil pipelines and other components. Solutions include repairing or replacing damaged parts, checking the sealing of the fuel tank, etc.

5. Audio problems: When problems such as noise and vibration occur in the transformer, it may be caused by loose internal windings, damaged mechanical parts, etc. Solutions include tightening windings, repairing or replacing damaged parts, etc.

6. Internal short circuit: Internal short circuit may be caused by insulation damage between windings, which can lead to problems such as excessive current and heating. Solutions include repairing insulation damage, replacing windings, etc.

7. Failed protection device: Failure of the protection device may cause the transformer to be unable to remove the faulty circuit in time, further aggravating the fault. Solutions include repairing or replacing failed protective devices, regular inspection of protective devices, etc.
