Welding techniques for galvanized sheets

Dec 19, 2023

The welding technique of galvanized steel plate with argon arc welding machine is how to prevent zinc ablation and zinc damage, from the following aspects:

galvanized steel plate

1. If the galvanized steel plate pays attention to the solution that there should be no zinc hazards

1) Use grinding and polishing methods to reduce the impact of the zinc layer on the surface of the hot-dip galvanized layer on electric welding, because the argon arc welding machine will definitely ablate the hot-dip galvanized layer.

2) Change to a non-argon arc welding method, such as ultra-low temperature electric welding. Typically, ultra-low temperature 179-degree MZN51 electrodes are used together with flux welding. A flame welding machine is required in an environment of 179 degrees. The electric welding position is heated to the melting point temperature of the welding rod, and then the welding rod is dipped in flux to wipe the electric welding position to form.

2. If the galvanized steel plate pays attention to the method of not damaging the zinc or trying to avoid damage as much as possible

1) The mentioned change of welding method is ultra-low temperature electric welding.

2) Change to welding materials with less harmful effects on zinc alloy materials. For example, soldering uses a molten arc welding machine, and copper welding wire coil welding, which typically means Weiou Ding 204S, high-purity argon gas protection, gas pressure around 15, using double pulse welding.

The above two application scenarios provide some tips for handling galvanized steel plate argon arc welding, which many colleagues can use at work.
