Cold-Rolled Low-Carbon Steel: DC01 to DC06

Nov 27, 2025

Introduction

This article explains cold-rolled low-carbon steel sheet and coil in grades DC01 to DC06. The DC01 to DC07 grades are cold-rolled low-carbon steels defined in EN 10130 for cold forming. The numbering indicates increasing formability: DC01 is the general-purpose grade and DC07 the ultra-deep-drawing grade, with the mechanical requirements and ductility rising through the series.

Grade System and Designations

The DC designation comes from the product group for cold-rolled flat products for cold forming, and the number states the formability class. The material numbers are 1.0330 for DC01, 1.0347 for DC03, 1.0338 for DC04, 1.0312 for DC05, 1.0873 for DC06 and 1.0898 for DC07. The grades are selected by the depth of the formed part and the risk of splitting at tight radii.

Mechanical Requirements

Yield strength falls and elongation rises as the grade number increases, which is the direct measure of formability. DC01 has the highest yield strength and the coarsest forming limits, while DC07 combines the lowest yield strength with the highest elongation for severe drawing operations. The values are guaranteed by the standard and verified on the delivered coil.

Grade Material No. Yield Strength MPa Elongation A80 % Min
DC01 1.0330 140 - 280 28
DC03 1.0347 140 - 240 34
DC04 1.0338 140 - 210 38
DC05 1.0312 140 - 180 40
DC06 1.0873 120 - 180 42
DC07 1.0898 100 - 170 44

Applications by Grade

DC01 is used for lightly formed parts such as panels, profiles and general sheet metal work; DC03 and DC04 for deeper drawn components such as automotive panels and appliance housings; DC05, DC06 and DC07 for severe deep drawing such as oil pans, complex body panels and domestic appliance shells.

Surface and Processing

The steel is supplied with defined surface finishes, from a matte finish suitable for painting to bright finish for visible parts, and with oiling options for protection. It is compatible with stamping, bending, roll forming and welding, and it is often the base material for subsequent galvanizing or organic coating.

Verification

Check the grade, material number, mechanical properties and surface quality on the mill certificate, and confirm the dimensional tolerances against EN 10130 before acceptance.

FAQ

1. What does DC01 mean? A cold-rolled low-carbon steel for cold forming defined in EN 10130, with the number indicating the formability class.
2. What is the difference between DC01 and DC07? DC07 has much lower yield strength and higher elongation, making it suitable for ultra-deep drawing.
3. What is the material number of DC01? 1.0330; DC07 is 1.0898.
4. What are DC grades used for? Panels, appliance housings, automotive parts and deep-drawn components.
5. How is formability measured? By yield strength, tensile strength and elongation values guaranteed in EN 10130.
6. Can DC grades be galvanized? Yes, they are common base materials for hot-dip galvanizing and organic coating.
