cold-rolled carbon steel

In the grade system of Japanese steel materials (JIS series), general structural steel grades primarily consist of three parts:

The first part indicates the material, such as S (Steel) for steel and F (Ferrum) for iron.

The second part represents different shapes, types, or uses, such as P (Plate) for plate, T (Tube) for tube, K (Kogu) for tool, U for special用途, W for wire rod/wire, C for castings, and F for forgings.

The third part uses numbers to indicate the steel type or serial number or the lower limit of strength value. Some grades also include suffixes like A, B, or C after the number to denote different quality grades, types, or thicknesses.
Example: SS400-

The first S stands for Steel,

The second S stands for "Structure,"

400 indicates the lower limit tensile strength of 400 MPa,

Overall, it denotes a general structural steel with a tensile strength of 400 MPa.

After the main structure of the grade (first, second, and third parts), suffix symbols indicating steel shape, manufacturing method, and heat treatment may be added as needed.

  • SPCC: Represents cold-rolled carbon steel sheets and strips for general use, equivalent to Chinese grade Q195-215A. The third letter C is the abbreviation for Cold. When tensile testing is required, add T at the end of the grade, making it SPCCT.
  • SPCD: Represents cold-rolled carbon steel sheets and strips for stamping, equivalent to Chinese grade 08AL (13237) high-quality carbon structural steel.
  • SPCE: Represents cold-rolled carbon steel sheets and strips for deep drawing, equivalent to Chinese grade 08AL (5213) deep-drawing steel. When non-aging properties are required, add N at the end of the grade, making it SPCEN.
