Silicon steel is a ferrosilicon alloy with a silicon content of about 0.5% to 4.5% and the rest is mainly iron. It is an important soft magnetic alloy indispensable in the power, electronics and military industries. It is also the metal functional material with the largest output and is mainly used in various applications. Iron cores for motors, generators and transformers.
Classification method of silicon steel:
According to the silicon content, it can be divided into: low silicon steel (containing 0.8~1.8% silicon), medium silicon steel (containing 1.8~2.8% silicon), relatively
High silicon steel (containing 2.8~3.8% silicon), high silicon steel (containing 3.8~4.8% silicon)
According to the grain orientation, it can be divided into: oriented silicon steel and non-oriented silicon steel.
According to the rolling method, it can be divided into: hot-rolled silicon steel, cold-rolled silicon steel (more commonly used)

The difference between cold rolled and hot rolled silicon steel:
(1) The magnetic saturation point of cold-rolled silicon steel sheets is high;
(2) When the magnetic flux density and frequency are the same, the unit loss of cold-rolled silicon steel sheets is lower than that of hot-rolled silicon steel sheets;
(3) There are two types of cold-rolled silicon steel sheets: oriented and non-oriented. Nowadays, cold-rolled oriented silicon steel sheets are used in transformers, while hot-rolled silicon steel sheets are non-oriented;
(4) When shearing or stamping is used to process silicon steel sheets, the performance of cold-rolled silicon steel sheets is particularly affected, while the impact on hot-rolled silicon steel sheets is minor.
Performance requirements of silicon steel:
◆Low core loss. This is the most important indicator of the quality of silicon steel sheets. Countries all classify grades according to the iron loss value. The lower the iron loss, the higher the grade;
◆High magnetic induction intensity. This reduces the size and weight of the cores of motors and transformers, saving silicon steel sheets, copper wires, and insulating materials;
◆Requirements for magnetic anisotropy; good punchability; smooth, flat surface and uniform thickness. Improve the lamination coefficient of the iron core;
◆The magnetic aging phenomenon is small.
