The difference between PPGI and PPGL plates PPGI and PPGL plates are two different color-coated steel plates, which are widely used in various industries, such as advertising, construction, transportation, home appliance industry, etc. They are very similar. But there are still some differences.
The difference between PPGI and PPGL sheets:
1. Different base materials
The basic difference between PPGI and PPGL is the base material. PTFE is the abbreviation of pre-coated galvanized steel sheet, and PPGL is the abbreviation of pre-coated galvanized steel sheet. As the name suggests, PPGI uses galvanized sheet (with a zinc coating) as the base metal. PPGL, on the other hand, uses a sheet of gallon glass as a base material and is covered with 55% lightweight aluminum, 43.3% zinc and 1.6% silicon. This is the key difference between PPGI and PPGL, which will further affect their functionality and applications.

2. Service life
As mentioned earlier, both zinc coatings and aluminum-zinc coatings are used to protect metals from rust to extend their lifespan. For GI plates, when the zinc layer is completely corroded, the base material will be damaged. Generally speaking, galvanized sheets last 10 to 15 years. Aluminum and zinc alloys form microscopic grain regions. The zinc-rich phase will corrode preferentially, while the aluminum-rich phase will corrode very slowly. Therefore, Al-Zn coating is more corrosion-resistant than galvanized steel sheet. According to data, the service life of PPGL is three times that of PPGI.
3. Weight difference
Under the same coating thickness, Al-Zn coating is lighter than zinc coating. This is because the specific gravity of aluminum is lower than that of zinc. In other words, under the same weight, Al-Zn coating can cover 3% more space than GI plate.
4. Appearance differences
The surface of PPGL sheet is smoother than that of PPGI sheet. This is because aluminum adheres better than zinc. For the same reason, PPGL sheets can be painted directly without pre-treatment. However, for galvanized sheets, pretreatment is required.
5. Different characteristics
PPGL sheet has better heat resistance than PPGI sheet. PPGL sheets can withstand temperatures of 315°C. Additionally, PPGL sheets have better corrosion resistance than PPGI. This is because the dense layer of aluminum prevents further corrosion of the base metal.
6. different applications
Both PPGI and PPGL sheets are widely used in siding and roofing. In comparison, PPGL has better corrosion resistance, which means it is more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. In addition, due to its good heat resistance and good surface conductivity, it is widely used in chimney pipes, ovens, lampshades, etc. But PPGL has less cutting edge protection. Therefore, you can use anti-rust paint or zinc-rich paint on the cut edges. Cut Edge Protection Geography, PP PPGL's cut edges are less protected. Therefore, you can use anti-rust paint or zinc-rich paint on the cut edges.
