What is TinPlate?

Sep 03, 2024

Tinplate is a sheet with a layer of metallic tin on the surface of steel sheet. This treatment is designed to provide excellent corrosion resistance, paintability, weldability, as well as processability and strength while maintaining a bright appearance. Tinplate, also known as tinplate, is made by electroplating a layer of high-purity tin (Sn>99.8%) on low-carbon steel.
This sheet is not only non-toxic and odorless, but also has a bright surface. Its main function is to prevent corrosion and rust. The manufacturing process of tinplate includes rolling, pickling, cold rolling, electrolytic cleaning annealing, flattening, trimming, and then cleaning, electroplating, soft melting, passivation treatment and oiling, and finally shearing into finished products. The tin coating can also be applied by hot-dip plating. Although this method uses a large amount of tin and the resulting tin layer is thicker, it does not require purification treatment.

The chrome-plated layer is a non-amphoteric material and is more suitable for packaging alkaline contents such as detergents and pigment dispersants.
In addition, there is a chrome-plated plate, which is formed by electroplating a metal chromium layer and a chromium oxide layer on the surface of the strip steel. It also has a very beautiful metallic luster and excellent corrosion resistance. Chrome-plated sheet coil refers to a steel plate with a layer of chrome on the surface, which is used to prevent the surface of the steel plate from corrosion and extend its service life.
Advantages of chrome-plated plates
Excellent paint adhesion: The paint adhesion is far greater than that of tinplate, and can be used to manufacture DRD cans and glued cans
Excellent heat denaturation resistance: high temperature baking resistance, no discoloration, and no deterioration of material properties
Excellent sulfide resistance: The metal chromium layer has good sulfide resistance and is suitable for canning of protein-rich foods such as fish
Excellent resistance to filamentous corrosion: Excellent resistance to filamentous corrosion under the paint film
Excellent alkali resistance; The chrome-plated layer is a non-amphoteric material and is more suitable for packaging alkaline contents such as detergents and pigment dispersants
