What is cold rolled steel plate?

Sep 01, 2023

Cold rolled steel sheet, often referred to simply as cold rolled steel sheet, is a steel product made by passing a steel plate or coil through a series of rolls at or slightly below room temperature. This process, known as cold rolling, is used to produce steel with improved surface finish, tighter dimensional tolerances and enhanced mechanical properties compared to hot rolled steel.

Properties of cold rolled steel:

1. Cold rolled steel has a smoother, more uniform surface finish than hot rolled steel. This makes it ideal for appearance-critical applications such as automotive panels, appliances and consumer electronics.

2. Cold rolling helps achieve precise thickness and width tolerances, making it easier to meet specific manufacturing requirements and ensuring consistent product dimensions.

3. Cold rolled steel is often chosen for its excellent workability. It can be easily cut, formed, welded and manipulated into a variety of shapes and sizes.

4. The cold rolling process removes any scale and impurities from the steel surface, resulting in a cleaner, more uniform surface.

5. Tighter Tolerances:Cold rolled steel has tighter thickness and width tolerances, ensuring greater precision in the manufacturing process.

6.Cold rolled steel is used in a wide range of industries and applications, including automotive manufacturing, construction, electrical appliances, electronics, furniture and more. It is particularly popular where surface quality, dimensional accuracy and strength are key factors.
