SPCC and DC01 are mainly formed and strength is secondary

Jul 26, 2024

Unlike structural steel, cold-formed steel is mainly used to make simple shapes, such as equipment parts, home appliances, etc., and there is no special requirement for strength. SPCC and DC01 are two commonly used cold-rolled steel plate grades, which follow Japanese and European standards respectively.
SPCC is a Japanese standard grade, and the standard it follows is JIS G 3141 "Cold-rolled steel plates and strips". SPCC stands for "Steel Plate Cold Rolled Commercial", which means commercial cold-rolled steel plates. SPCC cold-drawn steel plates have good processing properties. Due to their smooth surface finish and high-quality appearance, they are suitable for manufacturing various stampings and cold-bent parts, electrical appliances, automotive parts and electronic products. ‌But compared with other steel grades, its strength is limited. ‌
DC01 is a European standard grade, and the standard it follows is EN 10130 "Cold-rolled non-alloy steel plates and strips". It is famous for its excellent deep drawing performance and high formability. ‌DC01 steel also has good processing properties and is suitable for manufacturing various stampings and cold-bent parts, such as construction, furniture, electrical appliances, etc.
Compared with SPCC, DC01 has different chemical composition and mechanical properties. Its yield strength is lower than SPCC, and its tensile strength is also lower than SPCC, but its elongation is higher than SPCC, and its HRB hardness is lower than SPCC. This shows that DC01 is softer and has better stamping performance, making it more suitable for stamping parts with a larger stamping range and requiring softer materials.
