Is the galvanized pipe hot-dip galvanized or cold-dip galvanized?

May 06, 2023

First: There is a big difference between the two in the way they work. The zinc used in hot-dip galvanizing is obtained at a temperature of 450°C to 480°C; while the zinc in cold-dip galvanized steel pipes is obtained through electroplating at room temperature.
Second: There is a big difference in the thickness of the galvanized layer between cold-dip galvanized pipes and hot-dip galvanized pipes. The thickness of zinc in hot-dip galvanized steel pipes is greater than that of zinc in cold-dip galvanized steel pipes.
Third: The surface smoothness of the two is different. The surface of cold-dip galvanized steel pipes is much rougher than that of hot-dip galvanized steel pipes.
Fourth: There is also a big difference in price between cold-dip galvanized pipes and hot-dip galvanized pipes. In order to ensure the quality, manufacturers generally do not use electro-galvanizing as a galvanizing method for hot-dip galvanized steel pipes; while those small-scale enterprises with relatively old equipment mostly use electro-galvanizing, so the price of cold-galvanized steel pipes is higher. Lower than hot-dip galvanized steel pipe.
Fifth: The hot-dip galvanized steel pipe is galvanized on the whole steel pipe, while the cold-galvanized steel pipe is only galvanized on one side of the steel pipe.
Sixth: The adhesion between the two is also very different. The adhesion of cold-galvanized steel pipe is worse than that of hot-dip galvanized steel pipe, because the steel pipe substrate and zinc layer of cold-galvanized steel pipe are independent of each other, and the zinc layer is very thin, and it is simply attached to the surface of the steel pipe substrate , easy to fall off.
The process of cold galvanized steel pipe is electroplating, the inner wall of the steel pipe is not galvanized, only the outer wall of the steel pipe is coated with zinc; the process of hot-dip galvanized steel pipe is hot-dip galvanizing, and the inner and outer walls of the pipe have a zinc layer. According to the relevant regulations of the country, cold-galvanized pipes have poor corrosion resistance, and the zinc layer is easy to fall off, posing safety hazards, so they cannot be used as gas pipes and water pipes.
