DC07 vs. DC04 vs. DC05: Which Cold-Rolled Steel Grade Offers the Best Formability?

Dec 02, 2025

cold-rolled steels

DC07, DC05, and DC04 are all cold-rolled steels used for forming, but they differ in their deep-drawing capabilities. DC04 is for high deformation requirements, while DC05 is specifically for thermal forming and also has high forming requirements. DC07 is the highest quality in this comparison, designated as a "super deep drawing quality" for the most extreme deformation requirements, with the lowest yield strength of the three.

  • DC04

Intended Use: Suitable for high deformation requirements, such as deep drawing and complex shapes.
Properties: Has excellent deep-drawing properties under all types of deformation.

  • DC05

Intended Use: A thermal forming grade suitable for higher forming requirements.
Properties: Characterized by its excellent cold formability, with its chemical composition strictly controlled to achieve desired mechanical properties.

  • DC07

Intended Use: Designed for the highest possible deformation requirements.
Properties: Designated as a "super deep drawing quality" steel. It has a lower minimum yield strength than DC04 or DC05, indicating a higher degree of ductility and formability.

Choosing the appropriate cold-rolled steel grade is one of the most critical decisions for manufacturers in stamping and deep drawing operations. While DC04 and DC05 remain popular deep-drawing steel grades, DC07 stands out due to its ultra-low yield strength and superior elongation, ensuring highly stable formability even in extreme shaping conditions.

Manufacturing Concern DC04 DC05 DC07
Risk of cracking during deep stretch Medium Low Very Low
Risk of wrinkling Medium Low Very Low

For manufacturers struggling with product defects, wrinkling, uneven thickness, or high scrap rates when using DC04 or DC05, upgrading to DC07 often results in higher forming success rates, reduced tooling loss, and lower total cost per part.

GNEE STEEL supports customers with grade selection suggestions based on part drawings and forming requirements, helping global buyers purchase the most suitable cold-rolled steel - without overpaying for unused performance.
