DC06 Cold Rolled Steel

What is DC06 Cold Rolled Steel?

DC06 is an ultra-low carbon steel characterized by outstanding cold formability. The chemical composition of DC06 is precisely defined to ensure that the material has the required mechanical properties. Typically, DC06 contains a maximum of 0.01% carbon, a maximum of 0.20% manganese and only minimal traces of phosphorus and sulphur. This small amount of alloying elements contributes to the steel's exceptional formability and weldability.

Stamping factories often face quality problems such as excessive springback, wrinkles and tearing when manufacturing large deep-drawn parts. In order to reduce mold wear and material waste, more buyers began shifting from common rolled steel or hot rolled sheet metal to DC06 cold rolled steel, which provides reliable deformation absorption and low yield strength.

DC06 demonstrates strong performance in areas that previously required expensive stainless steel cold rolled coil, giving manufacturers better production economics without sacrificing appearance.

Our company can also supply the following cold-rolled steel grades:
DC01 – Designed for basic forming processes such as bending, embossing, beading and standard drawing operations.
DC03 – Intended for more demanding forming applications, including deep drawing and more complex profiling.
DC04 – Suitable for applications requiring high levels of formability.
DC05 – A deep-drawing grade developed to meet very high forming requirements.
DC06 – A special deep-drawing grade engineered for the highest demands in cold forming.
DC07 – An ultra deep-drawing grade tailored for extreme and highly challenging forming operations.

FAQ

1.Can DC grades be supplied with higher strength?
Some can be supplied as alloyed steels (e.g., with small additions of B or Ti) by agreement with the purchaser; specify when ordering.

2.What certificates should I request?
Typical: mill test certificate (EN 10204 2.1) or specific 3.1/3.2 documents for higher assurance. State required certificate at enquiry.

3.Is DC06 the same across all mills?
The EN limit is fixed, but some producers provide enhanced DC06 variants (e.g., SSAB Form 06) with tighter guarantees for r-value and surface finish. Compare the supplier's technical datasheet.

4.How do I minimise stretcher marks?
Choose skin-passed products, control lubrication during forming and avoid excessive storage after skin-pass. EN 10130 lists skin-pass recommendations and validity timelines.
