Specification Under EN 10130
DC01 is a commercial-grade cold-rolled low-carbon steel defined by EN 10130, produced from low-carbon hot-rolled strip by cold rolling and annealing. The cold reduction and recrystallisation anneal give a smooth surface, consistent mechanical properties, and good formability at a cost-effective price.

| Yield strength | 140-280 MPa | Per EN 10130 |
| Tensile strength | 270-410 MPa | Per EN 10130 |
| Elongation (A80) | ≥ 28% | Per EN 10130 |
| Coil thickness | 0.10-6.0 mm typical; 0.5-3.0 mm standard | Available range varies by mill |
| Coil width | 600-1500 mm typical | Wider or narrower by agreement |
| Surface finish | Smooth, skin passed, oiled or unoiled, chromated | Oiled finish protects in transit |
Thickness tolerance values such as plus or minus 0.02 mm are typical mill capability and must be confirmed against the order and the mill certificate, which references the tolerance class agreed between buyer and seller.
International Equivalents
The following grades are commonly treated as close equivalents of DC01. They have similar, but not identical, chemistry and mechanical limits, so the governing standard of each region should be checked before substitution.
| Standard | Grade |
|---|---|
| JIS G 3141 (Japan) | SPCC |
| DIN 1623 (Germany, historical) | St12 |
| ASTM A1008/A1008M (USA) | CS Type B |
| GB/T 5213 / GB/T 708 (China) | SPCC family designations |
Fabrication Behaviour
The low carbon content keeps DC01 ductile, so it suits bending, simple drawing, blanking, and roll forming where deformation is not extreme. Welding is straightforward with standard MIG, TIG, and resistance welding practice because the carbon content is low. The smooth, oiled surface provides a clean base for degreasing, phosphating, and painting after fabrication, and chromated finishes give temporary corrosion protection in humid storage. For deep drawing, specify a higher EN 10130 grade such as DC03 to DC06.
Application Guidance
DC01 is widely used for enclosures, cabinets, brackets, panels, and general machine and construction parts. Typical sectors include automotive interior and underbody parts, home appliances such as refrigerator panels and washing-machine drums, construction sheet metal, and light machinery. It is not intended for heavy deep drawing or for load-bearing structural design; structural applications require grades with guaranteed yield strength such as S235 or S275.
Food-Contact Clarification
Bare DC01 carbon steel is not a food-contact material. Food and beverage containers are made from steel with a compliant coating, typically electrolytic tinplate or chromium-coated steel, and must meet the food-contact regulations of the destination market. If a food-contact application is planned, specify the appropriate coated product and verify compliance with the applicable regulation before ordering.
Ordering and Sourcing Notes
When ordering DC01, state the standard and grade, the surface finish and oiling requirement, thickness and width with tolerances, coil weight range, and the requirement for a mill test certificate per EN 10204 type 3.1. State the edge condition (mill edge or slit edge) and the packaging requirement, typically waterproof paper, steel strapping, and pallets for sea freight. Confirm the delivery terms and the certificate requirements with the supplier in writing.
FAQ
What is the difference between DC01 and DC03?
DC01 is a commercial forming grade with a yield range of 140-280 MPa and elongation of at least 28%. DC03 and higher grades have tighter composition and better drawing properties, specified when the part requires deeper draws.
Is DC01 the same as SPCC?
SPCC under JIS G 3141 is a close equivalent with similar composition and mechanical ranges, but the standards differ in testing and tolerance details. Confirm the governing standard on the order rather than assuming identity.
Can DC01 be welded?
Yes. The low carbon content gives good weldability for MIG, TIG, and resistance welding. For load-bearing welded structures, a structural grade with guaranteed yield strength should be used instead.
Why does DC01 have an oiled surface finish?
The thin oil film protects the bright cold-rolled surface from corrosion during transport and storage. It is removed by the degreasing stage of the customer's paint or forming line.
What thicknesses are available in DC01 coil?
Typical supply ranges from about 0.5 to 3.0 mm in standard coil form, with thinner and thicker gauges available by agreement. The width can be customised by slitting.
Can DC01 be used for deep drawn parts?
Only for mild draws. For severe deep drawing, use DC03, DC04, or DC06, which have progressively lower yield strength and higher elongation, and confirm the r-value requirements with the mill.
