Color coated steel coil is a building material made by coating different types of silicate paints on cold-rolled steel sheets. According to different coating types, thickness, and applications, color coated steel coils can be divided into the following grades:

  • PPGI (Pre-Painted Galvanized Steel Coil):

PPGI is a high-end product of color coated steel coils. It has excellent weather resistance and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for exterior walls and roofs of premium buildings.

  • PPGL (Pre-Painted Galvalume Steel Coil):

PPGL color coated steel coil provides outstanding corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability. It is ideal for buildings located in harsh environments such as coastal areas and industrial zones.

  • GI Color Coated Steel Coil (Galvanized Color Steel Coil):

GI color coated steel coil has a relatively lighter coating thickness, making it suitable for medium-grade building walls and roofs.

  • GL Color Coated Steel Coil (Galvalume Color Steel Coil):

GL color coated steel coil offers excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, making it applicable to buildings exposed to harsh environments such as high temperatures and acid rain.

1. Chemical conversion coating (for passivation)
2. Primer layer (base coat) for adhesion
3. Fine coating layer (base/top coat for protection & aesthetics)

Dual primer+topcoat design enhances corrosion resistance
- Symmetrical structure suggests double-sided coating process
- Typical applications: architectural panels/appliance surfaces

II. Performance and Applications of Color Coated Steel Coil Grades

  • PPGI

PPGI color coated steel coil provides excellent weather resistance and anti-corrosion properties, making it highly suitable for high-end architectural applications. The coating thickness of PPGI is generally around 20 microns, offering strong resistance to light, water, acid, alkali, and pollution.

  • PPGL

PPGL color coated steel coil has superior corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability, making it reliable for use in demanding marine and industrial environments. Its coating is typically composed of 50% aluminum, 50% zinc, and organic coatings, which significantly extend the service life of the steel coil.

  • GI Color Coated Steel Coil

GI color coated steel coil usually has a coating thickness between 5–15 microns, with coating colors commonly including white and silver-white. This type of color steel coil is relatively cost-effective and suitable for medium-grade building walls and roofing applications.

  • GL Color Coated Steel Coil

The coating of GL color coated steel coil consists of aluminum and rare metal oxides, treated with high-temperature oxidation. This provides excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, making it widely applicable to industrial construction and buildings exposed to harsh environments such as high heat and acid rain.
