What is Zn-Al-Mg Coating Steel ?
Zinc aluminum-magnesium coating steel is a new type of corrosion-resistant coated steel sheet consisting mainly of zinc, about 11% aluminum, 3% magnesium and trace amounts of zinc.
Due to the compound effect of these additional elements, the corrosion inhibition effect is further improved In addifion, it hasexcellent processing performance under severe conditions (drawing, stamping, bending, paint welding, etc.), the coating hashigh hardness and excellent damage resistance. Compared with ordinary galvanized and aluminum-zinc-plated products,the amount of plating is less buti can achieve better corrosion resistance. Due to this super corrosion resistance, it can beused in some areas instead of stainless steel or aluminum The anti-corrosion and self-healing effect of the cut end face isa major feature of the product.

1. What is ZAM and how does it differ from GI?
Ans: ZAM is a highly corrosion-resistant alloy coating consisting of Zinc, Aluminum (typically 5-11%), and Magnesium (up to 3%). Unlike standard Galvanized Steel (GI), the addition of Magnesium creates a stable, dense protective barrier, offering 5–10 times the corrosion resistance of pure zinc coatings.
2. What is the "Self-Healing" property?
Ans: This is ZAM's most critical advantage. On cut edges or scratches, magnesium ions migrate to form a fine, stable protective film (simonkolleite). This chemical reaction effectively seals the exposed steel, preventing red rust without requiring edge paint.
3. Can ZAM replace Batch Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG)?
Ans: Yes. ZAM allows for "pre-coated" processing. You can punch, bend, and cut ZAM coils directly, eliminating the need for post-fabrication galvanizing. This reduces logistics costs, lead times, and avoids thermal deformation of parts.
