The reducer, also known as the big and small head, is one of the pipe connectors. It is divided into concentric reducers and eccentric reducers. It is mainly used to connect two different pipe diameters. Concentric reducers are generally used on vertical pipes, and eccentric reducers are used on horizontal pipes.
Generally, when the flow rate of the fluid in the pipeline changes, such as increasing or decreasing, and the flow rate requirement does not change much, a reducer must be used. Or at the inlet of the pump, it is used to prevent cavitation, or at the joints with instruments, such as flow meters and regulating valves, in order to cooperate with the joints of instruments, reducers are also needed.
The commonly used forming processes for reducers are reducing diameter pressing, expanding diameter pressing, or reducing diameter plus expanding diameter pressing. For certain specifications of reducers, forging can also be used. Based on the processing technology of diameter reduction and diameter expansion, the diameter reduction span can usually reach four levels. Commonly used standard specifications are only reducers with large head diameters of DN100, DN125, and DN150 that can reach five levels of reduction span. For example, concentric reducer DN100×DN40 is the standard maximum reduction.
